Lose it!

Lose it! App for iPhone
If you're looking to lose weight, one of the best things you can do is to keep track of what you're eating, and how much you are exercising.  This application helps you to do just that.
You enter in your basic information; Height, age, gender, etc.  It helps you decide on a calorie budget for your average day and week.  Every time you eat or drink, you enter in the calorie information for that item.  This seems tedious, but this application makes it much easier than you'd think.  You can scan in the barcode for the item you're eating, and the information is usually already there.  Simply tell it how many servings you've had.  Eating out?  it also has the calorie information for the menus of several common eateries.  McDonald's, Taco Bell, Applebee's, Denny's, FiveGuys, Olive Garden and Subway, just to name a few.
It also deducts calories for any exercise you do that day.  It has a calorie burning count for wrestling, aerobics, basketball, swimming, bowling and even simple things like gardening, sexual activity, home repair and playing music (IE instruments, not turning on the radio).  If I vacuum for 20 minutes, it would burn 46 calories.  How great it that?
This doesn't just count calories, however.  It also gives you the dietary information for your day/week based on what you've eaten.  Have a lot of carbs in your diet?  Just how much protein are you taking in?  Going overboard with the sodium?  You could be surprised.
Afraid that it'll be too difficult to figure out the calories for your home cooked meals?  I mean, just how many calories are in a cup of flour?  Not a problem.  You can enter in all of the ingredients and create "recipes" that you can select whenever you make that meal.  it will figure out how many calorie each serving is for you.  Talk about making your life a little easier.
I didn't just play with this application for a few minutes.  I used it to go on a diet.  I stayed on my diet for 6 months, using this app every day, and ended up losing 14 pounds!  That is without any extra exercise that I wouldn't be doing usually, or anything else special.  Just keeping track of what I was eating and how often I was exercising.  When you 'know' how much calories are going in, you tend to make better choices when you start to feel hungry again.  I would absolutely suggest this app for anyone wanting to lose weight.  You can even set up an account with them so you can keep track of friends who are also dieting with this app!  I didn't use this feature (I'm more of a one woman wolf pack) but it could make it easier for some people.  Since dieting with friends can really help when you need that extra support.
One down side to the application?  Most calorie information entered in is done so by your fellow users.  Sometimes people don't read the calorie information correctly, so it's good to do a double check to make sure it's right sometimes.  Many people think they are supposed to add the calories from fat to the total calories.  You end up counting almost twice as many calories than you're actually eating, in some cases.  So remember, if you enter any data in for a product, total calories is... "total" calories.  Which means the fat calories are already added to that number.  It would be great if they added a feature where you could change incorrectly added information entered in by someone else.
