LookBook.nu

Lookbook.nu App for iPhone
Interested in fashion?  Want to get inspired?  This is a good place to start.  There are many styles in the look book.  Both for men and women.
When you start the application up you'll see one of the fashion photos.  You can either swipe the screen to cycle through some other images, or you can tap the screen to bring up the menu.
The top left icon will bring up a menu that allows you to sign up for LookBook.nu.  It also allows you to browse "Hot", "New" and "Top" fashion photos.  Under these options are a help option which will explain what lookbook.nu is.
Back at the menu, top right rather than top left.  You'll see a button that says "Hype".  If you're logged in you can click the Hype button.  This is like giving the photo a Thumbs Up or a Like.  If you are not logged in and click the Hype button, it will send you to a log in screen. You can hype any photo you find really great or inspiring.
Below are some samples of the fashion photos you may come across on this application.
Back to the menu...  The bottom has a way to browse through the Hot, New or Top images.  It will be default be set to "Hot".
You can click the bottom left icon to save any photos you really love.  The "i" icon on the bottom left takes you to the photo information page.  From here you can see what the photo poster has to say about the look, find out where each piece of the outfit can be purchased (Or at least the brand), view the colour scheme, view comments people have left on the photo and see how many people have hyped the photo (Among other things).
From the information page you can also learn about the model/poster.  Their name, age and so on.  Click the icon of them and view their profile, where you can explore more of their looks.
Because this is a community for fashion, all of the fashions are uploaded by actual people/users.  I have to admit that the quality of most of these photos are impeccable.  I'd love to learn their secrets for taking such amazing photos.
So if you love fashion and browsing photos of people wearing really interesting outfits, this is a great app for you to try out.  it's absolutely free, so what do you have to lose?

ドーナッツ大好き

ドーナッツ大好き (I Love Doughnuts) App for iPhone
This is a really cute story about a little girl who loves doughnuts (Donuts).  it's beautiful artwork and cute fantasy story telling will warm your heart.
This being said, please know that this story is only written in Japanese.  there are no translations or English version.  If you can not read Japanese, you can try to follow along with the story through the illustrations.  However, that may prove to be slightly complicated.  i do wish that they would have translated this before releasing it to the US market.
I truly do love the art style used in this story.  And even the application itself has a really lovely visual setup.  It's like reading an actual little story book.
There is background music that plays.  However, you can turn this off whenever you like by clicking the sound icon at the top right corner.  To bring up the sound option and progress bar, tap the screen.  To make it disappear, tap it again.  You can do this at any time throughout the story.  To turn the page you can swipe across the screen or tap the page edge.
I am going to provide some sample pages from the story below.  I will also provide translations for these pages.  Though if you wish to read the whole story, you'll need to do your own translations.
TOP LEFT: Oh mother, every day every day
Cooked doughnuts are the most delicious in the world!
"You may have just one" Mother smiled gently.
"Yeah! Natsumi is alright with one" (Natsumi says)
Natsumi eats the doughnuts with filling.  She smiles and laughs.
TOP RIGHT:  "Hey, it came to life!"
"Hey, tell me how you changed the doughnut.  If you tell me, I'll return home right now, alright? Teach me!"
Natsumi listened intently as she stared at it.

BOTTOM LEFT: Natsumi was surprised it looked so poor.
The doughnuts were inedible...  Their stars were gone...
It's been a long journey, but I have finally discovered the blue planet.
Natsumi made a new friend, a doughnut, it was very fulfilling!
BOTTOM RIGHT: The adventurer was silent, and closed his eyes.
With open arms he spoke clearly, 'Thank you', and I couldn't move.
This person who is gentle and orange was filled with light.
This moment!
The green left pocket on my dress.  It began to shine.
I hope that anyone who reads this will like it as much as I did.  Though I'm not great with Japanese, I understood enough to follow the story.  I really do love this application.  My only displeasure is in the fact that they do not provide it in English.

MOeGO Dictionary

MOeGO Dictionary App for iPhone
Have you ever wanted to speak like a 'cutesy' Japanese girl (Or cartoon character)?  Or, have you ever wondered what they are saying, or what it means?  Why do they say certain phrases?  What sort of girls/characters would say the same thing in a different way?  If any of these quandaries come up for you, this could possibly be helpful.
Starting up the application, don't do anything for a while.  If you let the application sit on the main launch screen the character girl will get bored and say various random things.  Sometimes she will even hum.  This is a cute feature that you'd only know about if you left the application sit for a while.  Feel free to take advantage of this.
I will start off by saying that the character only speaks Japanese.  The application has English for the definitions.  However, the audio is entirely in Japanese.
On the launch screen you will have a few button options.  Let's go through them.  We will start from the bottom and work our way up.
Staff: This should be obvious.  This is essentially the credits list.  It lists off who was involved in the creation of this application.
Official Site: This will open your browser and direct you to their MOeGO website.  The site's English is a little broken.  However, it's still easy enough to understand.  It also provides two demonstration videos of someone using the application.  I do wish they would have made the videos a but 'cuter' rather than the way they did.  The second video gives off a bit of an unsettling vibe.  Both videos take you through the process of scrolling down the lists.  Choosing a word/phrase.  Then listening to the word/phrase being said.
About MOeGO:  I took a screen shot of this, to the left.  It explains the applications purpose and the type of speech this application features.
MOeGO List: This is the main part of the application.  Clicking this will take you to a list of... well, lists.  You can see what I mean to the right.  Basically, from here you'll choose how you want to browse the content.  Browse by subjects, suffixes, etc.  Different lists will have different content.  Feel free to try each one.
Once you choose one, you'll be taken to another list.  This will be the list of words and phrases.  This is where it starts to get a bit tricky.  You would imagine that downloading this application would be more for learning about Japanese... But all of the words/phrases are written on the lists using only Japanese characters.  Without being able to read it, you wont know what you're choosing until you click it and read the translation.  I would really appreciate if they made the list feature both the Japanese and English versions.  Something like this...
あにい / Older Brother
兄上様 / Older Brother
アニキ / Older Brother
兄君さま/ Brother
兄くん / Brother
兄チャマ / Brother
兄や / Brother
Or at least they could write out the Romanji for the phrases.  Below are sample screens from the "Subjects" section.
As you can see in the second screen, this is what the page looks like after you choose a word of phrase. It gives you the Kana, and the Romanji here.  It tells you the category in which you located this word or phrase.  Then it explains the phrase.  In the Subjects section, the first sentence of the explanation is 'who you would call this'.  So in the sample to the right, above... You would call a noble woman this.  However, sometimes the way it explains it can be confusing.  For example "Boku"  The "who" here is "The first person to create boyish girl"... This sounds like a parent of a boyish girl.  However, what it means to say is that a 'boyish girl' would use this phrase in the 'first person' sense.  Because "Boku" is "I".  I understand that the main purpose is to give an explanation that describes not only how to use it but also 'who' would use it.  Or who to use it for...  But I would really like to see them add an actual "Literal definition" section in there to avoid confusion.
If you are unsure how to pronounce the word, there is a button at the bottom that will play the word.  Next to it is a button that will say the phrase that the word is used in.  I have found that every now and then the character will start saying random phrases, even though you are actively using the app (Which can be confusion).  For example on the "Warawa" page after clicking "Play" it played the word.  Then started talking about ice cream.  I pressed the button and the phrase button several times afterwards.  It would not play the ice cream phrase again.  This is how I knew it was just the character saying things at random.  You'll notice this as you click different lists, and browse the application.
There are 22 words in this section.
Next section: MOe Suffix.  This is a list of words or phrases you can end sentences with.  Again, it doesn't really define the phrases.  It gives you the circumstance in which you would use it.  It tells you the sort of person that would use it.  However, it does not give a true definition.  When it does occasionally define the word itself, it gives a vague definition.
Below are sample screens from this section.
Let's look at the second screen above.  "Soonanokaa" is said to be used when you understand a situation (Making it sound more like an interpreted sound than a meaningful word).  It basically means "I understand".  This is a bit of a vague definition.  An example of just not defining the word at all is their explanation of "Desuno".  It in no way explains what the word means.  It should at least define "Desu" to give you a basic idea.  For this reason, I would say that this application is really only useful for people who know at least the basics of Japanese.  Otherwise people are going to go around ending their sentences in random words, thinking they are 'cute', when really they just look insane, because they don't understand what the words really mean.  So use the application 'after' learning some of the basics.
There are 24 words in this section.
Next section "Onomatopoeia".  In case you don't know this word.  Here is the meaning...

on·o·mat·o·poe·ia/ˌänəˌmatəˈpēə/
Noun:
  1. The formation of a word from a sound associated with what is named (e.g., cuckoosizzle).
  2. The use of such words for rhetorical effect.

That pretty accurately describes these words.  Think of the words you see in comic books.  "WHAP!" "BAM" "WOOSH"... These are onomatopoeia words.  So these words don't really need defining, really.  Saying what they refer to should be sufficient.
You'll see phrases like "Munimuni", "Mii", "Nnyu", "Mugyuu" and other cute sounds.
There are 19 words here.  You'll also see a lot of this "~".  You can tell a word is drawn out in a sigh or whine when you see this.  Keep that in mind.
On to the last section.  "Other MOeGO".  These are basically things that they didn't feel really 'fit' into the other categories.  Some examples being "Aha" (A laugh), Jiwaru (You're mean), Kiraidesu (I hate you) and Nannanoda (What's this!?).  Some of the definitions here are very good.  better than many other the explanations in the other areas.  Where as some of them are again, quite vague, confusing or misleading.  It's a hit or miss.
There are 37 words on this list.  That's so many!
     Now for the break down!
It's a very interesting application.  it has a unique concept.  It's not so much "Teaching Japanese" so much as it is trying to explain particular dialects of Japanese.  Like how some American people say "Y'all" or "Ain't" where as others do not.  The phrases like these that are used, define the character's personality.  just because it's the same language, doesn't mean everyone who speaks that language uses those words or phrases.  So for this, I respect the application creators for giving expostulations for these phrases.
The application is easy to navigate, aside from the issue of the word lists being in Japanese only.  Also, it is visually attractive.
The voice actress is very good and manages to provide voices for a wide variety of character types and situations.
I was unsatisfied with the explanations of some words.  I still say they should list a literal translation in the explanation section (Sometimes they do, but rarely).  I also this that the example/sample phrase in which they use the word should have an English translation, rather than be written only in Japanese.
I 'am' very happy that other than the word list and sample phrases, all other parts of the application have been translated to English before releasing this application to the US market.  This is something many application creators fail to do before a US release.  So again, I respect the application developers for this.
Overall it is a good application.  it has a few issues, but I think so long as a person has a basic understanding of the language, it should be easy to use and understand.  This could be very useful for people trying to create their own japan inspired comic book/web comic.  It could also help people who watch Japanese cartoons to have a better understanding of the characters they are watching, and why they phrase things the way they do.
Lastly, I want to discuss the price.  I don't think 2.99USD is terrible... It does provide many words and the voice actress clearly put a lot of work into it.  But I honestly feel that this is more of a 1.99USD application.  I feel it would be a more appropriate price.  Maybe they'll have a sale one day.  We can hope, right?

BrainPOP Featured Movie

Brain Pop Featured Movie App for iPhone
This is a fun and cute educational application.  Though it's targeted toward a younger audience (Grade school/middle school) it can be enjoyed by all.  Remember all those things in school you learned, but don't remember?  How about a fun review of them?
Every month you'll get a new theme.  With new video and quizzes. I think this is really fun.  It gives you a reason to keep coming back.  As you can see in the screen shot to the right, I saved this when the theme was Newton's Law of Motion.  Currently the theme is Recycling.
Let's go through the various parts of the application.
On the top left you'll see "Play the Movie".  This will begin the short animation.  The short film features the two main characters, Tim and Moby.  It will go over the theme you're learning about.  Teaching you various facts about that subject.
To the left you can see a screen of the movie playing (The the characters are not present on this part of the video).  The robot doesn't speak, but the human, Tim, does.  Everything said within the short is also subtitled at the bottom of the video (As you can see).
At the end of the animation you'll get the option to "Replay the Movie" or "Take the Quiz".  Also, during the movie (and after) you can see some buttons above the play area.  These buttons take you back to the launch screen, take you to where you can browse other animations and share the movie through email.
At the bottom of the screen there is also a "Options" button and a "list" button that takes you to more videos.
Back on the main screen, "Take the Quiz"...  This is something you should do after watching the video.
You will get a series of questions with multiple choice answers.  When you get the answer correct, the robot pops up and nods "Yes" while the screen displays "Correct".
If you get it wrong the robot shakes his head "No" furiously.  The screen says "Nope! Try Again".  You can then choose a different answer.
There are 10 questions in each quiz.  At the end you'll get to type in your name.  it will keep score of how many answers you got correct (On the first try).  You'll have your own score board so you can see how well you've been doing.
There are buttons at the top of the quiz screen also.  From here you can return to the launch screen, play the movie that the questions are about or see your previous scores.
The buttons at the bottom take you to the video lists.
The next option on the main screen is "See Your Scores".  This naturally takes you to your score board where you can see the scores you've gotten and what the quizzes were on.
Lastly we have the option to view "Related Videos".  This will show you a list of other available videos that relate to the current theme.  Some movies are free, some you must pay for.  There is a "Free movies" button you can click to view only the free ones.
Don't worry, the pay movies do not need to be purchased individually.  You can get a subscription which will unlock all of the movies.  This is called "Brain Pop Full Access".  It costs 6.99USD a month.  Alternatively, you can choose "Brain Pop Explorer", which allows you to access 4 related movies and quizzes.  This costs 1.99USD per month.
Though these are really fun and educational, I'm not sure I'd be willing to pay a monthly fee to see additional content.  Though, you don't need to.  You could just keep up with the current movie of the month as well as the free movies.
In case you are curious on what categories the videos are divided into.  Science, Social Studies, English, Math, Arts & Music, Health, Tech & Engineering.
I think it's a cute and fun application.  I think it would be really great for a young person being home schooled, or who just wants to learn some things on their own, in a fun way.  Though I think the monthly fees are a bit high.

SugarPost

SugarPost App for iPhone
I really wanted to download this for a long time because it looked so cute.  I adored the artwork.  I couldn't find a way to communicate with the app creator or artist.  Eventually I ended up downloading it, so I could browse through all of the adorable images and make some cute cards.
This is a paid application, but with the limited selection, you'd think it was a free application.  At least there's no ad banners.
This is an application for making little digital cards to send to friends and loved ones.
There are 15 regular cards.  Each one has a cute picture and some words.  Some examples are
"You make me smile"
"Good evening and good afternoon, good night.  Do you have any good news?"
"Cheer up  Better days are coming.Everything's gonna be alright"
"Together we make dreams come true"
"Will you be my sweetheart?"
and "I'm so sorry, please forgive me.  I love you"
You swipe across the bottom, where the cards are displayed, to sift through them.
You also have a place on the card that you can personalize with your own message, as well as a To and From area.
When you have finished choose the card and writing your message you can click the "Send" function in the upper right corner of the card edit screen.  From here you can preview the card, save it to your device, send it in Kakaotalk, Upload it to Facebook, or send it via email.  There is also an option that says "Message" which I assume sends it through a text, but it doesn't appear to work.  It just loads endlessly.
Aside from these cards, there are also photo cards.  To access these, click the "Photo Card" image on the upper left of the launch screen.
There are only 7 photo cards available to choose from.  Each one works like a photo frame.  You click the empty spot where the photo goes and access your photo album to fill it with the photo of your choice.  You also have the option of taking a new photo to add.
This is where the issue I have comes in...  When you load a photo, it stretches it out.  Also, trying to pinch and drag it to fit properly causes the image to spazz and jump all about.  Never staying where you want it to.  Using the photo cards is next to impossible, if you want the photo to actually look right.
Otherwise, the photo cards work the same way the regular ones do.  They each have a different adorable drawing and a phrase.  Some examples being...
"You can make your dreams come true"
"To be happy"
"Happy Cheer Keep Smiling"
and "Happy Birthday to you!  You make me smile"
These also have a place for the message you wish to write, the To and the From.
Clicking the send button here works the same as in the other section.  If you wish to return to the message section from the photo card section, simply push the "Message Card" image in the top right side of the screen where you select the photo cards.
I have to say that though I adore the artwork in this application, I regret purchasing it.  The limited variety, not working SMS and the inability to properly use the photo cards is more than just a bit disappointing.  I speculate that the photos used to work, but after iOS updates has gone a bit 'off'...  I don't think the application creator updates this app anymore (It has never been updated since the release in June).  So I doubt it will ever be fixed.  But we can hope!  If the creator fixes the photo card performance and adds some more cards, I'd gladly give it a higher score... But for now... the score is as it stands.

Operation Girl -01-

Operation Girl -01- App for iPhone
Turn your iPhone into a robot girl.  She will update you on your phone's specs and power usage as well as play music for you and tell you the time.  Now if only she could make me a nice cuppa tea...
The screen to the right is what appears upon starting up the application.  It is essentially the load screen.  When the application is loaded it starts the program on it's own.  There is no start or stop functionality.
Let's start with the artwork... It's clean but very ... low grade, to me.  Not really what I would consider a high quality drawing.  Especially the hair.  It looks like something drawn by a very young person.  Perhaps one that is just starting out.  not that this isn't fine.  We all must start somewhere, right?  But for an application I have a certain level of expectations, as far as visual quality goes.  It's a free application, but I still feel they could have done a bit better on the girl's drawing.  After all, it's the only real visual in the app...
Now on to the functions of the application...
Please note the character's eyes.  The left eye will show you the time.  It is in standard military time.  The right eye is the currently selected function.  in the case of the image to the left, that function is music player mode.  Clicking the eye will start the music player.  A circle will appear over her image with the music buttons.  The buttons are back track, forward track, play and song select (At the top).
Every time you hear her make her machine sound, and blink, the currently selected function on her eye will change.  It cycles through.  Don't worry, she'll still play your music, even when she's in another mode.
The music is whatever happens to be on your device.  She can not stream music via another application.
There is also a "Map" mode, which will use your phone's GPS to locate you on the map.  it does not give directions or have a search function.  It simply shows you, and the area around you.  You can use the swipe and pinch functions to zoom out and move the map position about.
She also has a camera function.  Clicking this will bring up your phone's camera.
Lastly, there is a clock function... Which seems silly since the other eye displays the time...  Clicking it will bring up what you see to the right.  An hour, minute and second hand that will move accordingly.  it also displays the date and time at the bottom.
The bottom left of the screen displays the battery life of your phone, what you've opened recently, within the app  The application information and the time and date.  So... nothing that your phone doesn't normally do for you at the top of the screen, aside from the app information.
You can zoom in or out by swiping top to bottom, or bottom to top.  You can also cycle through her modes by swiping across the screen.
Lastly, there are options available by clicking the gear button in the upper left corner of the application.  Thank goodness for this option... Because within here you can turn off that ruddy machine sound affect that goes off once every 10 seconds.  Otherwise it just tells you how long the application has been active and the website for the app creator.
I really found this to be a pointless application.  The sound was so irritating, though fortunately the option to turn it off exists.  The art left much to be desired.  Not very bad, but not great.  The app didn't do anything I couldn't do without the application.  The map function seemed pointless, as did the clock function.  I just don't really see any reason to download this application.  I'm really trying to think of one, but I don't have anything, sorry.  This is really a pointless application.  I would prefer the app creator thing of functions for the application that could be more innovative.  Have the app track all the diagnostics for the hone.  not just battery live.  Have it track how much space is left on the device, the temperature of the device, something...  And a feature that allowed the robot girl to speak would make this much better.  Even if it's just a few simple phrases, depending on the function.  For example, she could speak the time when you click the clock function.  I think they had an interesting idea when they made this application.  They just didn't bring out the idea's full potential.  It's too basic and boring.  Until they do something to spice it up, this is getting a low rating from me.

Rina's Slide Puzzle

Rina's Slide Puzzle App for iPhone
I remember when slide puzzles were popular.  You'd get them in the bottom of cereal boxes or as gifts for doing well in class.  The idea is that a picture is drawn onto a piece of plastic, within a frame.  It is divided into many smaller squares, with one square removed.  Sometimes a ring would be placed in the empty spot so that the picture would not slide about when you aren't playing.  You would remove the ring and slide the pieces around, switching them out with the empty space, one at a time.  You would continue this process until the image was complete (Not scrambled up).  Then you'd scramble it again, and try to fix it.  This app is a digital version of the "Slide Puzzle" concept.
The artwork is really colourful and soft.  It's clean and attractive.  I really like the cute style they used for the characters.  I am sure that it will appeal to many people.
Upon launching the application, you'll see the "Game Start" button as well as buttons below for "Help" and "Info".
Help: Gives you a brief explanation of the game.  It is written in both Japanese and English.  Extra points to the application creators for this.
Info:  Gives you the company name as well as a short list of other applications they provide.
Game Start:  This is (clearly) where you go to play the actual game.  There are multiple stages with several character puzzles per stage.
The screen capture to the left shows the main screen for stage one.  Clicking "Back" will take you back the the launch screen.  Clicking "Profiles" will take you to a page where you can learn more about the many characters you will see in the puzzles.  this is a cute and fun extra feature to have.
As you can see there are two characters available for stage one.  Pressing the arrow next to the "STAGE 1" words will take you to stage two.  You must complete the puzzles in Stage One before proceeding to complete the puzzles in Stage Two.  there are three stages in total.  Each with 2 character puzzles.
Above you can see two samples from the puzzles.  As you can see the later stages have more squares to maneuver.  If at any time you feel that you can not complete the puzzle, and would like to start over or try a different puzzle, click the "Retire" button at the top of the puzzle.
When you complete a puzzle you'll get the "CLEAR" words on the screen.  It will then show you the full image, without the puzzle squares in the way.  You're goal is to unlock all of these pictures.  Are you up to the challenge?
Before I finish up with this review... All of the profiles are in Japanese.  If you do not read Japanese, you will have trouble reading them.  So I thought I would provide some translations for you.
Characters in order they are shown in the app, from left to right, top to bottom.

RINA AMANO:  You're there already, but (Something)...  Toro, that's not everything!  What are you doing?!  I'm going as fast as I can!  (Amano Rina) Rina, sister of Chizuru Amano.  It's not that I hate them, they're nice.  I put up with their surliness. (Rough translation)
MIYAGAWA YUKI:  Miyagawa Yuki wont play today?  He has a good reason to refuse.  Mr Draper's eldest son, and heir to the long established and time honoured drapery shoppe.  Very informed and sharp as a whip. (Rough translation)
NYAKUOJI AOI:  It's Nyakuoji Aoi (Not Aoi Nakuoju).  Please don't call her by her family name.  She has a quiet demeanor and enjoys reading books in the park.  She seems to have a complex about her surname.
CHIZURU AMANO:  It's-Because-I'm-Playing with Chi-Chan today!  Rina's Sister.  Appears to be lively.  She loves her sister.  She has a straight-forward personality and doesn't hide the truth.
RICO (LI CO):  Whew, OK.  I will take a delicious torte today.  She is useful and lives in the shadowy mansion, Mel De.  Her graceful manner and cake making talent is lost on that house.
KIRISHIMA NAO:  What, she's a girl, isn't she?  It's a secret.  She appears to be a girl that lives in the mansion.  The son of a beautiful woman.  He is influenced by his mother, after her early demise. (Rough translation)

This is a small and simple application that can provide a fun challenge for puzzle fans.  if you like cute child-like characters and puzzles, this game may be quite enjoyable for you.  Though I did enjoy the art and have fond memories of slide puzzles... I don't often find myself wanting to partake in slide puzzle play very often nowadays.  I couldn't really relate to the characters personally.  But that is just from my perspective.  I am sure other people will have different views.

もえけん!

MOEken (もえけん!)App for iPhone
Have you ever wanted to play Rock, Paper, Scissors with someone, but didn't have anyone to play against?... Well, now there's an app for that.
MOEken features a "cute school girl" who looks to be around 10 years of age.
This application has just recently been released (Late October), so be one of the first to try it out!
The game is entirely in Japanese, but you shouldn't need instructions on how to play Rock, Paper, Scissors.
Click the large blue start button from the launch screen.  From there you can choose one of the hang gestures.  The first for "Rock", the two fingered hand for "Scissors" or the spread out hand for "Paper".  in case you have never played this game before... Rock crushes scissors, thus rock will beat scissors.  Scissors cuts paper, so scissors beats paper.  Paper covers rock so paper will win over rock.
The girl will also choose a hand gesture.  She is not supposed to know what you will be choosing.  Can you beat her?
Below are some sample screens from her winning and losing.  If she wins or loses, her emotions will change.
That is it.  That is the extent of this application.  Short and sweet.
If you are wondering what the white blocked text is in the three screen shots it's from the left: "Rock paper Scissors Game Begin!" "Rock paper Scissors!" & "Rock paper Scissors!".
If you just want a simple rock, paper, scissors game to play with, this could work for you.  You don't really get anything for winning or lose anything for losing.  Nothing is unlockable.  There's only one character...  It's all a bit 'too' simplistic for my taste.  However, I've seen no lag or crashing.  The art is decent and the app runs smoothly.

Ama-Hina

Ama-Hina App for iPhone
Are you strong enough to survive a horde of zombies?  Could you fight them off with a sword?... What about with your bare fists?  Well now you can!  This game features fierce school girls who face a horde of zombies head on, with no fear!
The name Ama-Hina is a shortened form of Amaneku and Hinata.  The names of the two characters you can play.  But there are other non-playable characters in the game.  Not only are there several different zombies, but they have newely added a devil girl named Kozel who will fire a large gun at you.  Fight off her attacks and battle onward!
When you first start the game up you will see a fun introduction animation sequence.  I really enjoyed the music for this sequence (Also, if you leave the launch screen going too long, the intro plays over again).  It reminded me a lot of the Persona games.  After the intro you'll see the launch screen (Right Screen Capture).  From here you have a few options.
Twitter: Takes you to the official Twitter page for CELLNAVI (English).
Info: Gives you a brief list of who was involved with the game.  As well as the game version number.
Ranking: Takes you to the high scores list.  You select by level (Urban, Rainy Day or Hell).  Choose the stage you want the high scores for and you'll see all of your best scores for that level.  You can even click the "World" tab to see the best scores for that level in the world!  How do you compare against the best players?
Settings: This is for the controls on the game.  Default controls are left tap for jumping, right tap for attacking.  If you are not comfortable with this set up, you can click the "Change" icon in the upper right corner of the settings screen to change them.
Play: This is the important part.  this is what you download the app for, right?  It certainly wasn't to play with the settings and visit the Twitter page.  Once you click Start you are taken to the character select screen.  Initially you'll only have access to Hinata.  You have to unlock Amaneku by laying through the game a bit.
Once you select your character you move on to the level selection.  Again, initially only one level will be available to play.  This is the "Urban" stage.  Below are two screen shots from the Urban stage, being played with Hinata.  You can click the images to view the larger version of the screen captures, if you like.
You may notice that in the second capture the monsters look pretty tough.  I'll get to that in a moment.
While playing you'll have no control over your character, other than jumping and attacking.  She will continue to run forward on her own.  If she stumbles over an obstacle or is hit by an enemy, she'll lose speed.  Also, jumping decreases her speed.  However, if she does not hit anything for a long time her speed will increase to an unsafe point.  You don't want to be moving too fast.  You wont have enough time to react when an enemy appears in front of you.  3 hits from the enemy and your hearts are gone.  You'll fall and lie on the ground lifeless.  Game over.
The upper right shows your distance.  The further you go, the better.  Your distance is essentially your score.  Sometimes you can get power ups and extra hearts from defeating enemies or attacking red bins. The red bins can also be used to defeat the enemy  They seem to be highly explosive.  If you strike them 3 times they will roll forward, exploding on the first thing they come to.  If the first thing they come to is enough bin, you'll get a domino affect, and that bin will now roll forward.
Every now and again, among the zombie scum you will find a larger demon monster.  These creatures take more hits to defeat.  Also, if you get a particular distance on a level, you can come across Kozel, which you can see in the second screen capture above for the Urban stage.  She is very dangerous!  proceed with caution.  You can try to dodge her shots or attack them.
Once you get to at least 500 meters in Urban, you'll unlock the "Heavy Rain" stage.  I unlocked this after my first play.  So it should not be difficult for you.  The screen to the right is from the heavy rain stage.
Unlike the Urban level, in Heavy rain you are timed.  When you smash bins you can now get either life, power ups or time.  Once the time runs out, it's game over.
Once you go 300 meters in heavy rain, the path to Hell is unlocked.
Hell is a level that looks like the city has mostly been destroyed.  It is also timed.  The enemies are stronger and the speed is faster.  I have not posted images from this stage in the review to give you something to look forward to.  But I will give you some advice.  Jump on the buses rather than tripping past them.  You'll lose less speed.  Jumping while attacking an enemy does more damage.  this is especially useful against the larger monsters.
Amaneku is unlocked after a certain amount of game play, I believe.  It doesn't take long.  After an hour of playing I had unlocked everything in the game.  Below you can see some shots of Amaneku fighting.
You may notice that the second screen shot looks different from usual.  The character is large on the screen and there is a blue border effect.  Remember those power ups I mentioned earlier?  When you swipe your finger across the screen you'll do a power up move.  now, sometimes this can be difficult to time.  I had a hard time getting it to work when I wanted it to.  You'll have 3 of these at the beginning of a level, but you can pick up more from the bins and such.  It creates a sequence where the character is large on the screen and does a super move animation that does heavy damage to the enemy/enemies it strikes.  You might want to save these for the large monsters.
In case you are curious about the differences between the characters, as far as game play goes.  Hinata does less damage, but her attacks are faster.  Amaneku does more damage but has a slower attack.  Keep that in mind when you select them for different stages.
I really enjoyed this game.  It's simple but still challenging.  I like the available characters.  I would love to see them introduce more playable characters one day.  Perhaps you could play a zombie to fight the zombies... or play as the devil girl?  Either way, it was a really fun game.  I'm glad I got the opportunity to play it!  I think that if you like school girls, side scrollers or zombie battling, it's worth the download.  it's also available for Android.  But it'll cost more (2.87USD).
