Battle Skating

Battle Skating App for iPhone
Do you enjoy Winter sports?  What about figure skating?  Well there's an app for that!  Twirl and jump across the ice with this fun and challenging game application.
There is only one playable character for this game.  Sorry, no male figure skaters.
Let's look at the options on the launch screen to the right.
When you start the application and see the launch screen, you'll hear music playing.  There is no option to turn this off on this screen.  If you wish to not hear the music you shall have to either turn the volume down or mute your device.  Otherwise you can go into the option menu and turn it off.  However this will also affect the game play.
Starting from the bottom, Apps: Takes you to a screen full of multiple applications that you may or may not wish to download.
Credits: This is fairly self explanatory.  It tells you who did the programming, sound effects & graphics.
Option:  More appropriately, this should be called "Sound options".  You can increase or decrease the sound effects or background volume here.  It lagged a bit on my device.  But I'm not sure if that is the applications fault or my device's.
How To: Explains the game functions.  It's fairly simple game play really.  You swipe according to what move it tells you to perform.  However, you must swipe in the correct direction, at the correct time, to receive a good score.  There are only 3 different moves that you can perform.
Ranking: Shows you the world ranking/high scores.  The rankings are categorized by difficulty level the game was played on (There are 3 difficulty levels).  Currently the rankings are Easy: US, US, US, JP, US Medium: US, US, JP, JP, JP Hard: JP, JP, US, US, US
Scores: These are where your own personal scores will be listed.  It saves your 5 highest scores for each difficulty level.
Then there is the most important button... "Start".  This will begin the game.  But first you have some options to chose from.  You must choose whether you wish to play the Short Program or the Free Program.  Mind you that the free program must be unlocked.  You unlock it by playing the Short Program enough.  I unlocked it pretty fast.  Within the first 5 or 10 minutes.
I will now explain the differences between the difficulty levels for Short Program...
Easy: You'll start out very slow, with a wide space between each move.  You'll have more 'forgiveness' for not doing the move at exactly the correct moment.
Medium: The character will be skating faster, and the moves will be closer together.  less forgiveness.
Hard: Heaven help you.  I hope you have amazing reaction time.  They are about the same distance from one another as Medium, but the character is skating very quickly, which allows very little chance to think about what way to swipe before it's time to do so.  If you master this mode, I have respect for you.
In the Free Program you will not receive the same scoring as in the Short Program.  In the Short Program you get Technical and Construction points.  In the Free Program you only receive "Total Points".  The way this mode differs is that it does not tell you which move to do.  Instead it has bouquets of flowers scattered about the ice.  A low hanging bouquet needs to be jumped over.  So you will need to do a triple axel to get by.  A medium hanging bouquet is passed by doing a beillman spin.  It kicks the bouquet out of the way.  A high hanging bouquet requires you to perform a ina baur so skate underneath of it..  If you get the move wrong or the timing is off you can fall down or get stunned.  You will not get points for incorrect choreography.
The easy, medium and hard modes are basically the same in differences as the Short Program mode.  They just use the rules and set up of the Free Program.  In order to unlock Medium you must do well at Easy.  The same for Hard mode.  Work your way up and be the best skater in the world!... Well... the best virtual figure skater...
I like the graphics and the music is alright.  The sound effects range from well done to annoying.  I feel like the "Miss sound" is a bit irritating, but perhaps that's the point (It sounds like a little gas toot).
This is a fun and completely free application.  You might just enjoy it, so why not give it a try?
